Led Zeppelin Cover
When I first started playing acoustic guitar, “Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You” was one of the first songs I wanted to learn. I loved the dynamics and how Page’s acoustic guitar compliments Plant’s gentle vocal, building it up to a frenzy, when Bonham starts hitting his drums and timpani like the god of thunder. With the song being on their first album, this was an early example of the astonishing dynamics and the pure power of Led Zeppelin.
My cover started out with just the original instrumentation, but my brain began imagining horns in various places and strings in others, adding a symphonic element that pushes the song into new territories. My final touch was adding a Jimmy Page inspired guitar solo at the end, as a tribute to his iconic and influential playing style.
